Scoring Categories
On the Yahtzee scorecard, there are 13 different scoring categories. Each category can only be used once, and you must choose a category to score in after each turn. The categories include ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, and sixes (where you sum up the dice of that number), three-of-a-kind, four-of-a-kind, full house, small straight, large straight, Yahtzee (all five dice showing the same number), and chance (any combination of dice).
Turn sequence
The game consists of a series of turns. On your turn, you get three rolls of the dice to create the best scoring combination. After the first roll, you can choose to keep any dice you want and re-roll the rest. You can do this up to two more times, trying to achieve the best possible scoring combination.
Scoring combinations
After your three rolls, you must choose a scoring category to place your score. You must enter a score in a category each turn, even if it’s zero. For example, if you rolled 3, 3, 3, 4, 6, and you decide to score in the threes category, you would enter 9 as your score. Some categories have specific requirements, such as the full house (three of one number and two of another) or the small straight (four consecutive numbers).
Bonus points
If your total score in the ones through sixes category is 63 or higher, you receive a bonus of 35 points.
Yahtzee bonus
If you roll a Yahtzee (all five dice showing the same number) and you have already scored a Yahtzee earlier, you receive a bonus. The bonus is 100 points for each additional Yahtzee you roll and enter in the Yahtzee category.
At the End of the Game
At the end of the round players count up their points on the scorecard and if a player has:
- Less than 25 points they have to drink 1 shot
- Less than 50 points then they have to drink 3 shots
- More than 50 points and they have to do 5 shots
Yahtzee drinking game is a fantastic alternative to standard dice drinking games. A lot of drinking will be involved in this game, especially if you’re a dipshit who keeps rolling 1s.
Have lots of fun and enjoy the game but make sure you drink responsibly.
